Text Structure

unit

a text node

A text unit is a 4-way relationship between text units:

(unit, parent, role, type)

Each text unit has a parent, a role and a type, each of these being again a text unit. See the definition of text.

role

role of a unit as child

Every child of a unit plays a particular role in it. The possible roles are the children of the parent unit's type.

type

type of a unit

Every unit instantiates a type, which is another unit. That means that the unit is a particular occurrence of the type, that is seen as a model or pattern. A unit inherits its behavior from its type unit.
